CVE Descriptions

Buffer overflow in the cliproxy.objects.1 ActiveX control in the Symantec Client Proxy (CLIproxy.dll) in Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.x, 10.1.x before MR9, and 10.2.x before MR4; and Symantec Client Security 3.0.x and 3.1.x before MR9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long argument to the SetRemoteComputerName function.

CVE Informations

Related Weaknesses

CWE-ID Weakness Name Source
CWE-119 Improper Restriction of Operations within the Bounds of a Memory Buffer
The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it reads from or writes to a memory location outside the buffer's intended boundary. This may result in read or write operations on unexpected memory locations that could be linked to other variables, data structures, or internal program data.

EPSS

EPSS is a scoring model that predicts the likelihood of a vulnerability being exploited.

EPSS Score

The EPSS model produces a probability score between 0 and 1 (0 and 100%). The higher the score, the greater the probability that a vulnerability will be exploited.

EPSS Percentile

The percentile is used to rank CVE according to their EPSS score. For example, a CVE in the 95th percentile according to its EPSS score is more likely to be exploited than 95% of other CVE. Thus, the percentile is used to compare the EPSS score of a CVE with that of other CVE.

source: https://www.securityfocus.com/bid/38222/info The Symantec Client Proxy ActiveX control is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability because the application fails to perform adequate boundary checks on user-supplied data. Successful exploits allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the application using the ActiveX control (typically Internet Explorer). Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions. The following are vulnerable: Symantec AntiVirus 10.0.x and 10.1.x prior to 10.1 MR9 Symantec AntiVirus 10.2.x prior to 10.2 MR4 Symantec Client Security 3.0.x and 3.1.x prior to 3.1 MR9 <html> <package><job id='DoneInVBS' debug='false' error='true'> <object classid='clsid:E381F1C0-910E-11D1-AB1E-00A0C90F8F6F' id='target' /> <script language='vbscript'> arg1=String(7188, "A") target.SetRemoteComputerName arg1 </script> </html>
